A Virtual Machine Template for the GlassFish WebSpace Server is available. The template provides a new method of evaluating and deploying the GlassFish Web Space Server 10 product. "The template is a VM image containing an operating system, application server, database and GlassFish Web Space Server deployed in a headless server profile and lightly pre-configured for immediate evaluation and customization to suit your deployment needs," explains Sun's Gabor Puhalla.

Its image is offered in a number of formats, including

• VirtualBox (OVF, VDI)
• VMware Workstation (VMDK) and
• VMware Server ESX (VMDK).

The image comes with multiple products pre-installed and pre-configured. These are GlassFish Web Space Server, GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1, MySQL 5 Community Server and OpenSolaris 2008.11.

According to Puhalla, the Sun team is in the process of producing formats of the template for the Amazon EC2 and Sun Cloud environments.

"Although this first release of the VM template is oriented toward evaluation use, we plan to fully qualify the included stack such that future versions of the template can be used as the basis for production deployments," he says.
