JavaFX 1.2: What's new, what's different, what to do.

The white paper JavaFX 1.2 Technology: Features and Enhancements by Java and JavaFX Technology specialist Inyoung Cho covers what's new and what has changed in JavaFX 1.2 technologies. Cho explains the changes in the JavaFX SDK with the latest release 1.2 and what's different from 1.1.

The changes involve a number of areas: animation, asynchronous operations, effects, graphics, keyboard and mouse events, mobile, overall performance improvements, persistence storage, platform support, production suite, UI control components, UI chart components, web services and other aspects.

The JavaFX 1.2 SDK includes changes to the APIs that are not upward compatible, the white paper notes, adding that some classes, APIs, and variables have been removed from the JavaFX 1.1 SDK, while newer classes, APIs, and variables have been added to the JavaFX 1.2 SDK.

Furthermore, the JavaFX 1.2 SDK release is not binary compatible with the JavaFX 1.1 SDK, which means that user applications and all libraries that they depend on must be recompiled with the JavaFX 1.2 SDK.

In addition to the white paper there is also a brief video featuring Cho and Cindy Church that covers how to use Scene Graph.

The changes, and there are many, outlined in the white paper are detailed and comprehensive.
