Feature Details

  • Storage Analytics: A system for dynamically observing the behavior of a system in real-time and viewing data graphically. It can minimize business downtime through quick discovery/fix of issues and improve productivity with performance optimization.

  • ZFS Hybrid Storage Pool: Composed of optional Flash-memory devices for acceleration of reads and writes, low-power, high-capacity disks, and DRAM memory, all managed transparently as a single data hierarchy. It offers superior performance and capacity at lower cost and energy consumption.

  • RAID-Z (5 and 6), Mirrored and Striping: Allows drive grouping to achieve greater levels of performance, reliability, and/or larger data volume sizes. This feature provides the flexibility to choose RAID architecture to match application requirements.

  • Snapshots: Read only copies of a filesystem at a given point of time, enabling rapid recovery of accidentally deleted files or objects, and facilitates backup to tape.

  • Clones: A writable copy of a LUN or filesystem snapshot allows testing and development of true data with no additional storage requirements.

  • Snapshot Restore: Immediate restore of single files, filesystems, and LUNs for increased productivity.

  • Remote Replication: Data replication between Sun Storage 7000 systems enables disaster recovery architecture, and distribution of data to one or multiple locations.

  • Data Compression: Four levels supported; compress data before being written to disk for greater investment protection with more efficient storage utilization.

  • Active-Active Clustering: Transparent failover when one node fails for increased data availability.

  • Thin Provisioning: Allocates physical space to Share as needed.

  • Virus scanning: Real-Time Anti-Virus(AV) support to include file scanning on File Open, File Close, or combination (requires companion AV server).

  • NDMP: Local, Remote or 3-Way backup utilizing NDMP with supported third party NDMP-enabled backup products.

  • System Self-Healing: Predictive Self-Healing and Diagnosis of all System FRUs: CPUs, DRAM, I/O cards, Disks, Fans, Power Supplies for increased data availability.

  • ZFS Data Integrity: ZFS End-to-End Data Checksums of all Data and Metadata, protecting data throughout the stack.

  • RAID-6 (DP) and optional RAID-6 Across JBODs: Protects against failure of two drives and JBOD failure.

  • LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol): Link Aggregation Control Protocol, to bundle multiple network devices to behave as one. It improves performance (multiplies bandwidth) and reliability (can survive network port failure).

  • IP MultiPathing (IPMP): Provide IP network address fail-over in the event of a device failure (such a physical wire disconnection or a failure of the connection between a device and its switch) or in the event of a path failure between the system and its network gateway.

  • I/O Multipathing: Provides redundant paths to the storage subsystem, eliminating single point of failure.

  • Auto Service Request/ASR (Phone home): Auto Service Request Uses fault telemetry to automatically initiate a service request and begin the problem resolution process as soon as a problem occurs. This increases service availability, faster time to resolution, reduces administration time, reduces phone time, maintains storage system performance, and manages data center environments more efficiently.

  • Browser Interface: Graphical tool for administration of the appliance, provides an intuitive environment for administration tasks, visualizing concepts, and analyzing performance data.

  • Heterogenous access: Supports access through CIFS, NFS, FTP/FTPS/SFTP, HTTP, WebDAV, iSCSI

  • Role-Based Access Control: Restricts system access to authorized users for increased productivity and data protection.

  • VLANs: Allows for end stations to be grouped together even if they are not located on the same network switch for increased security and scalability.

Sun Unified Storage Data Migration Service

Each migration is priced for the specific customer environment. Factors like the number of terabytes of data being migrated, the number of shares being created, and the number of clients being configured for testing are factored in to the service pricing.

  • Migration Service Feature ~ Service Sizing Tool: Sizes raw data migration, time to migrate and cost of migration so a migration plan can be put in place to work around business needs.

  • Migration Service Feature: Migration of data, files, iSCSI volumes and control information from existing NAS system to Sun Storage 7000 series.

  • Migration Service Feature ~ Environment recreation: Recreation of NAS operational environment maximizes the full feature/functionality of the new Unified Storage environment

  • Migration Service Feature ~ CIFS/NFS Migrators: MD5 hashing built in for Validation 3-phase shaddow migration approach: Remove files on target no appearing on source, Copy files from source to target, Verify files with MD5 signiture, Multi threaded and criteria based migration; Can be scheduled so it runs as a service.

Software used for migration in the Sun Unified Storage Data Migration Service is de-installed after migration. Customers must provide appropriate hardware for the migration software to be installed on and in-place for the duration of the migration.
