This new portfolio of professional services is designed to help drive new efficiencies for businesses with quickly emerging cloud computing models. Clients can receive assistance in evaluating, planning, and implementing advanced cloud strategies with the Sun Cloud Strategic Planning / Consulting Services.

The company announced this new services offering at the kick-off of the open developer CommunityOne West Conference on June 1st. With this new Service, Sun can help clients evaluate cloud computing solutions - both public and private - with an eye toward cost savings and flexibility. The Sun Cloud Strategic Planning / Consulting Services will evaluate customer cloud readiness and opportunities in four key areas:

  • Business
  • Organization/Culture
  • Technology
  • IT Environments

Following the evaluation, Sun Professional Services will make recommendations and associated plans for a solution target toward an organizations' business and IT objectives. Key objectives the Sun Professional Services team will be addressing for customers signing up for this service:

  • Lower overall IT and/or facilities costs
  • Upgrade, migrate, consolidate, or build a more agile datacenter or private clouds to support mergers and acquisitions, consolidation or divestiture activity
  • Accelerate IT resource deployment in the cloud
  • Improve IT alignment to support key business drivers
  • Become more cost effective at managing peak workload requirements in a cloud environment
  • Increase IT flexibility, capacity, and capability through a cloud computing model
  • Shift users or key applications or facilities-related assets and management to a cloud computing vendor

"Cloud Computing has been billed by the industry as the answer to today's IT woes, without much clarity on how to get there," said Amy O'Connor, vice president, Services Marketing at Sun. "At Sun, we are applying our industry specific consulting and technology expertise to offer secure, practical guidance to companies looking to drive new levels of efficiency by leveraging this emerging computing model."
