Announcements from the 2009 International Supercomputing Conference include multiple new updates and releases in Sun's open networking technologies and HPC software line. One of these is the Sun Grid Engine 6.2 Update 3 that introduces a new interface for Amazon EC2. Sun also made the top ten twice in the Supercomputer List for June 2009.

Amazon EC2 is now supported by hardened OpenSolaris 2008.11. Another recent OpenSolaris triumph, Sun's open source OS on Sun Fire X2270 outperformed Linux by 25%.
