Communications Suite 6 Update 2 brings many changes and new features on the horizon - everything from virtualization to mail, messaging, administrator access, express communications and more. Beta versions will be released by the Calendar Server (CalDAV server) and the indexing and Search Service.

Here's a look behind the scenes of what's being done to the system virtualization support, convergence and enhanced mail features, messaging server 7, instant messaging 8 that brings a gateway to Yahoo, improved administrator access directory, connector outlook bug fixes, and the added convenience of the Communications Express.

What's New in Sun Java Communications Suite Update 2

  • System Virtualization Support
  • Updates to comm_dssetup.pl

The Sun Java Communications Suite Update 2 provides the system with virtualization support. Sun tests the technology and of its Java System products on select system virtualization and OS combinations to verify that they work in virtual and non-virtual environments.

What's New in Sun Convergence 1 Update 2

  • Shared/Subscribed folders
  • Mail Quota
  • Spell-Checking Email
  • Marking Messages as Spam
  • Single Sign On (SSO) and Authentication using Sun OpenSSO Enterprise 8.0

Sun Convergence 1: Users can now share their mail folders, or take advantage of the mail quota feature that allows users to view usage information. Automatically spell checks can be performed and bulk emails can now be labeled for improved handling of spam.

  • Microsoft Exchange Journaling Format
  • Update of MTA ClamAV Filter Plugin to Support New INSTREAM Command
  • Redesign of the ENS Client and Server

Messaging Server 7 with Microsoft Exchange: Messaging brings many updates that allow for journal formatting, filter plugins, redesign ENS client and server, and more.

What's New in Instant Messaging 8 Update 1

  • Yahoo Gateway in Instant Messaging

Instant Messaging 8 provides a gateway for Yahoo messaging allowing users to communicate with their Yahoo messenger contacts.

What's New in Delegated Administrator 7

  • Direct LDAP Access to the Directory
  • Support for Schema 1
  • Custom User Attributes Can Be Added to the Delegated Administrator Console
  • Preserving Customized Configuration During Upgrades

Delegated Administrator 7 This update provides access to directory either through the direct LDAP access or through the Access Manager. "By using direct LDAP access, Delegated Administrator removes the former dependence on Access Manager. You can now provision Communications Suite domains, users, and groups without installing or using Access Manager," according to the Sun Factotum Documentation Handyman. In addition, consumer attributes can be applied as well as maintaining customized Configuration During Upgrades.
