With Open Storage we have freedom, rather than being bound hand and foot

-- Peter Lerche, CEO, EasySpeedy

Thanks to Sun's Open Storage, do-it-yourself Web hosting services are being offered to the customers of EasySpeedy, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. EasySpeedy chose to use Sun's Open Storage platform to run its open server hosting because it is flexible and scalable enough to meet the needs of their customers, without the proprietary limitations.

"With Open Storage, we are not locked into one product line and proprietary protocols. Sun gives us the ability to build the architecture that suits our needs. With Open Storage we have freedom, rather than being bound hand and foot," said Peter Lerche, Chief Executive Officer, EasySpeedy.

In addition, the Open Storage format allows them to cost effectively run their datacenter of about 1,200 physical servers. Their system layout is made up of rack-optimized Sun Fire and white box servers that power about 28 operating systems. Sun SPARC Enterprise servers provide support for their Remote Control Center. Sun's Open storage gives EasySpeedy a data storage solution for customers that is easy to scale and simple to manage.

“Thanks to Sun Open Storage, EasySpeedy can cost-effectively scale data storage on demand to meet the needs of customers. What is more, the platform helps minimize power consumption and makes day-to-day management simple," said Lerche.

Sun's Open Storage was ideal for EasySpeedy's product offering, which focuses on providing its customers with unmanaged hosting services. Their customers enjoy the flexibility of being able to add storage as needed and to manage their own hosting via a Web browser. Moreover, because Sun's storage solution is from an open environment, EasySpeedy's customers can choose the operating system they want: Solaris, Linux, Windows, UNIX, and Apple.

Sun's Open-Storage Platform helps to meet EasySpeedy's customer challenges with flexible storage, scalability, cost-effective way of storing data, and minimizes power consumers. The hosting facility in Denmark is based on a Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System and a 24 TB Sun Storage J4400 array.
