Sun OpenSSO Express release provides organizations using Google Apps Premier Edition a rapid, federated single sign-on (SSO), enabling employees to use their enterprise logins to access Google Apps for increased security, accelerated user adoption, and improved administration benefits.

Google Apps Premier Edition is Google's Software as a Service (SaaS) solution for business messaging, collaboration, and security. It includes Gmail, with integrated voice and video chat, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Sites, and Google Video for business. Sun OpenSSO, is an open source identity management project providing highly scalable, high-performance capabilities for SSO, access management, federation and Web services security. Sun's OpenSSO can be configured within minutes, Sun reports, for rapid, federated SSO.

"Our customers want to easily onboard internal resources, partner resources, and SaaS resource in a repeatable, scalable manner using their centralized identity and access management infrastructure," said Daniel Raskin, Chief Identity Strategist at Sun Microsystems. "OpenSSO's new federation capabilities for Google Apps provides a new level of innovation by focusing on simplicity and providing a three step process to quickly federate with the Google Apps service."

OpenSSO paired with Google Apps allows organizations to use best of breed SaaS services in a highly secure manner to provide more service and value to their customers and employees. Through the federation capabilities of OpenSSO, no data is provisioned to Google and user credentials are not passed across the wire. The combination of OpenSSO and Google Apps make it very simple for employees to easily and securely access their collaboration and messaging tools from anywhere in the world.

Sun is also offering the first of many starter kits for Google Apps. Sun's Identity Starter Kits provide simple step-by-step guides and teaching tools to help solve everyday identity problems with Sun's Identity Management Suite. To begin using the Sun Identity Starter Kit for Google Apps download OpenSSO Express Build 7 and the Sun Identity Starter Kit for Google Apps. Sun plans on making more starter kits available over the next few months for other solutions.
