Sun has announced that new SFF 146GB 10,000 rpm SAS disks are now available for the Sun Blade T6320 and T6340 Server Modules as Assemble-to-Order (ATO) and X-options. These new disks are SAS2 capable and offer better availability. Up to 4 can be supported on the Sun Blade T6320 server module and up to 2 on the T6340 server module.

With the SFF 146GB 10,000 rpm SAS disks, customers can expect to experience an overall increase in system availability and more throughput with future SAS2/SATA2 controllers, Sun says.

The SAS2 interface in these disks allows for the transmittal of up to 6Gb/s throughput with future SAS2 controllers for better random and sequential performance.

The disks also feature up to 1.6 million hours of MTBF due to reduced component count, allowing for an overall improvement in storage I/O uptime.

The newly announced disk -- (X)RB-SS2CF-146G10K -- uses newer technology from drive suppliers and can support future SAS2 technology while the current (X)RA-SS2CF-146G10K does not.
