Sun's Logical Domain (LDoms) features now support and certify Oracle 10g for both single instances and Real Application Cluster (RAC) implementations.
"With LDoms virtualization technology," said Roman Ivanov, "administrators can achieve great level of resource management and security level at the same time having higher utilization of servers."
This technology applies Sun's CoolThreads Server with Solaris to allow the distribution of a system's resources into logical groupings. In order to allow administrators to protect and isolate groups, each group is arranged to have its own operating system, resources, and network identity that operates within a single physical computer system.
According to Daniel Powers, the certification includes Oracle support for customer installations for "Oracle 10g DBMS in an LDom partition in either a single instance or a RAC configuration. This will allow multiple Oracle 10g instances to operate independently on a single Sun CoolThreads (CMT) Server in full hardware level isolation," said Powers.
Ivanov refers users to the Technology Support Matrix for details.
Ivanov refers developers the concept of, "By using LDoms now you can have single box with a number of guest domains configured as a cluster nodes," said Ivanov. "Real World" configuration examples are coming soon.
In addition, readers are encouraged to check out Ivanov's blog: Cluster on a chip, which details a cluster without cables on a mobile 1U server.
