New memory options give Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 servers higher density memory.

Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000 and M9000 Data Center Servers now offer double the maximum memory capacity with a new 8GB DIMM memory option. Using the new higher density memory CPU/Memory Boards (CMUs) enables customers to double the maximum system memory in the SPARC Enterprise M8000 and M9000 Servers and up to 4 Terabytes of system memory in the largest M9000-64 configuration. New Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 CMU boards with the new 8GB DIMM memory options are available now for both new factory configured systems and can be ordered separately and added to existing systems.

Solaris 10 10/08 is now the current preferred operating system preinstalled on all SPARC Enterprise servers, and Solaris 10 8/07 operating system is the minimum requirement for SPARC Enterprise M-series servers using SPARC64 VI processors. Solaris 10 5/08 Operating System is the minimum recommended for SPARC Enterprise M-series servers using SPARC64 VII processors. SPARC64 VII options can be supported with Solaris 10 8/07 with required updates.

The Sun Upgrade Advantage Program offers customers a trade-in allowance for upgrading their existing CPU/memory boards to the new cpu/memory boards. Information on the Upgrade Advantage Program is available at http://www.sun.com/tradeins/index.jsp.

The release of this memory board does not entail the end-of-life for any other SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 CPU/Memory Board CMUs or memory options. While the new 8GB DIMM memory options can be mixed with other memory DIMM options in the server, they must be placed in separate memory groups in accordance with the server memory placement guidelines for different memory DIMM types.
