Java CAPS 6 U1: a standards-based, open, extensible platform for developing software infrastructures using a service-oriented architecture approach
 

Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS) provides a standards-based, open, extensible platform for developing software infrastructures using a service-oriented architecture approach. This unified and comprehensive suite can help enterprises create composite applications from existing investments as well as deliver new business services in a flexible SOA environment with no vendor lock-in.

The recent release of Java CAPS 6 Update 1 brought with it many new features and enhancements:

Platform-level enhancements:

  • Approximately 250 product issues addressed
  • Over 162 Master Data Management (MDM) product issues addressed
  • Runtime environment upgraded to GlassFish Enterprise Server AS 9.1 UR2 Patch 3
  • Design-time Environment upgraded to NetBeans 6.1 Patch 3
  • Support added for Open Solaris 2008.05 and newer

Product/Component-level enhancements:

  • Added support for MySQL for Business Process instance persistence and recovery
  • Added support for MySQL in Sun Master Index
  • New wizard for bulk data loading in Sun Data Integrator
  • Added new component XSLT Service Engine
  • Enhanced TCP/IP adapter by adding JCA Global RAR
  • Enhanced Oracle Applications adapter by adding JCA Global RAR
  • Added Database Binding Component
  • Added support for customer encoders- Added support for LDAP BC
  • Added HL7 eWay and OTD Library

New Products:

  • Added Sun Intelligent Event Processor: will be available as part of Java CAPS and ESB Suite
  • Added Sun Data Mashup Engine: will be available as part of Java CAPS and MDM Suite.

Upgrading

Customers of Java CAPS 5.1.x release who have maintained an active support contract will be able to upgrade to Release 6 U1 release without having to purchase new or additional licenses. An upgrade to CAPS 6 U1 from CAPS 5.1.x will require minimal effort because of the close compatibility of the releases.

An upgrade to CAPS 6 U1 from CAPS 6 will require no re-engineering effort for the solutions because of the backwards compatibility of the releases. Sun does provide a service offering specifically to assist customers with this task.
