Two new path management solutions from Sun.
Sun has announced two new solutions in its storage portfolio: the Sun StorageTek 9900 Dynamic Link Manager 6.1 (DLM) for Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Windows and Linux, and Sun StorageTek 9900 Global Link Manager 6.1 (GLM).
DLM is a high availability path management software product. GLM is a comprehensive multi-path management tool designed to simplify and enhance configuration, reporting, and management of multiple data paths between servers and storage arrays. Both are designed for use with Sun StorageTek 9900 storage array systems.
The new features in these two solutions include:
For DLM:
Support for the display of HBA WWN information in GLM;
Introduction of four new load balancing algorithms based on least block and least I/O queueing
For GLM:
Support for Internet Protocol version 6 IPv6;
Display of HBA port WWN information;
Support for silent installation for the Extended Least I/O algorithm in environments exhibiting both random and sequential I/O characteristics (Extended Least I/O becomes the new default host setting for load balancing, replacing Round Robin)
Sun StorageTek 9900 Dynamic Link Manager 6.1
Simplifies operations by automating path discovery, failback, and overall functionality using either a graphical user interface (GUI) or command line interface (CLI).
Optimizes path performance through its load balancing feature, thereby extending superior storage system performance into the path.
Protects access to data by ensuring path availability in the event of a path failure. This is achieved using the DLM automatic path failover functionality, which extends data access protection outside the storage system into the path.
Reduces the customer's workload by providing path configuration and management functions through the Sun StorageTek Global Link Availability Manager, where multiple hosts running HDLM can be configured and managed simultaneously.
Improves system reliability by instantly reporting data path failure information to GLM.
Sun StorageTek 9900 Global Link Manager 6.1
Simplifies maintenance, configuration, and monitoring of multiple HDLM instances.
Allows the customer to more effectively manage service level agreements by dynamically adjusting data path bandwidth according to established thresholds.
Quickly determine that cause and location of data path failures thereby protecting application availability.
Some of the additional features of these solutions include:
For DLM:
Support for Path Online event notifications for third-party enterprise management software.
Support for Historical Path Availability Reporting
Support for Path Failure Alert Forwarding to Enterprise Management Applications
Automatic Failover and Automatic Failback
Support for IBM HACMP Clustering Software
Support for Microsoft?s MSCS clustering software and Veritas Cluster Server software.
