Short Items of Interest to the Java Community

J2SE 1.4.2 End Of Life

J2SE 1.4.2 has reached its Java Technology End of Life (EOL). The transition period began Dececember 11, 2006, and completed October 30th, 2008, when J2SE 1.4.2 reached its End of Service Life (EOSL). All products that have completed the EOL transition period will be moved to the Archive area.

Jersey 1.0.1 Implements JAX-RS 1.0

Jersey is the open source, production quality, JAX-RS (JSR 311) Reference Implementation for building RESTful Web services. Find out more about its current status, new examples, roadmap, and Webinar on The Aquarium blog and others.

Sun's Director of Technology Outreach on JavaFX and future of Java

Reginald Hutcherso, director of Technology Outreach for Sun, recently spoke to Builder AU and answered the following questions:

  • Why should developers take a look at JavaFX?
  • To what degree do you think JavaFX will suffer from being late to the RIA game?
  • For how long can Sun continue to add features to the Java language specification before using another language makes more sense?

Recent Updates to Multilingual GlassFish

The GlassFish v3 Prelude Web Pages have been localized for German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

Additionally, Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server 2.1 Multilingual builds are available for testing in the same seven languages listed above. The GlassFish Globalization team would appreciate anyone who can assist in testing the localized versions to please do so to help improve its localization quality.

Sun Teams with Carnegie Mellon in Support of Alice

Carnegie Mellon University's object-oriented, open source educational software that teaches students computing programming in a 3D environment will be globalized with the help of Sun over the next three years. Learn more about Alice and Sun\'s committment to its continuing development.
