Crossbow Project Integrated in Nevada
Phase 1 of the Crossbow Project has been integrated into Nevada Build 105 and is set to be released with OpenSolaris 4.09, announced Sunay Tripathi, distinguished engineer, Solaris Core Operating System.
Crossbow is a set of technologies that provide network virtualization and greatly improves the resource control, performance, and network utilization needed to achieve true OS virtualization, utility computing, and server consolidation. It consists of multiple components: IP Instances, Virtual NICs (VNICs), and Flow Management. Crossbow is designed to add network virtualization to Solaris without introducing any performance penalty. Some of the underlying work is delivering better network performance.
See Tripathi\'s blog for background information on Crossbow and Network Virtualization.
