December 8, 2008,
Volume 130, Issue 2

Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 11 addresses security vulnerabilities.

The general release notes for Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11 (which is included in the Java SE Development Kit (JDK) 6 Update 11) reports that the release provides a new Java Plug-in that combines features of applet and Java Web Start technologies, a new Direct3D pipeline for Microsoft platforms, an updated documentation bundle, and more. Further information and downloads for both the JRE and the JDK are available here.

Brian Krebs's computer security blog in The Washington Post provides some helpful guidance concerning installation of the update.

The update release notes lists the changes in all 1.6.0 update releases, including bug fixes from previous update versions, which are listed by version number (shown by update release date) and which also include build numbers.

The release notes also provide a link to the Bud Database Community. In addition, the release specifies security baselines to be used with the original Java Plus-in technology.

There is a link in the release to instructions on Deploying Java Applets with Family JRE Versions in java Plug-in for Internet Explorer.

Instructions are included as well for Windows Runtime Environment Installation (Patch-in-place vs. Static), which can be found here.
