Sun provides industry leading support and a stable, secure and
reliable operating system through Solaris releases. However, the
new OpenSolaris production offering targets a new market, particularly
what is called the 'Network Economy' sector, where time to market and
timely access to industry leading innovation is critical to their
business needs. Many of these customers have been falling back to
Linux-based offerings because Solaris has not been seen to to
readily provide access to newer open source applications and
development tools. However, their experience with Linux has often been
plagued by reliability issues - and inadequate support offerings.
