When matched to Sun Blade 6000 10GbE Multi-Fabric Express Module and SFP+ optical transceiver, these FEMs provide highly effective 10GbE throughput to I/O intensive applications.

The Sun Bade 6000 Multi-Fabric Network Express Module (NEM) is designed for enterprise-level connectivity environments. The Muti-Fabric NEM connects to some of the popular switches from Cisco, Force 10, Foundry, Extreme, Fujitsu, and HP.

It comes with 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 10 unpopulated SFP+ (10G) ports. It also includes four mini SAS ports.

Some other features that make the Sun Blade 6000 attractive are:

  • Support for up to two Network Express Modules per Sun Blade 6000 chassis
  • Enterprise-class connectivity for large or mixed OS environments
  • Up to 234 gigs of non-blocking I/O throughput, per NEM
  • Featuring an industry first, multi-fabric design

On-board 10 Gigabit Ethernet is also available for Sun Blade X6250 and T6320 Server Modules through 2 new Fabric Expansion Modules (FEMs). A Fabric Expansion Module is a special I/O module designed for Sun Blade Server Modules to deliver high-performance on-board I/O. These I/O modules are pluggable, and deliver higher performance with lower latency through not using a PCIe chip set as in the case of ExpressModule (EM), When matched to Sun Blade 6000 10GbE Multi-Fabric Express Module and SFP+ optical transceiver, these FEMs provide highly effective 10GbE throughput to I/O intensive applications. Some other features this provides are:

  • 10 GbE port, 4 mini-SAS port, 10 10GbE ports
  • Up to 2 per Sun Blade 6000 chassis
  • 2 recommended for dual path and path failover
  • Available as S-option for Sun Blade 6000 chassis
  • SAS feature available in the future through firmware upgrade
