Four-Socket Sun Blade X6450 Server Module with Intel Tigerton Processors Comes With Intel Xeon 7000 Series and Up to 192 GB of Memory
Sun has introduced a new four-socket Sun Blade X6450 server module with Intel Xeon 7000 series (Tigerton) processors and up to 192 GB of memory (24 DIMM slots per server module for 50% more memory capacity than competing blade servers). As compute nodes for the Sun Constellation system, Sun Blade X6450 server modules push the limits of performance, providing up to 7.37TFLOPS of peak performance per fully populated Sun Blade 6048 chassis, offering 768 cores per rack for up to 71% more compute power than competing blade servers.
The Sun Blade X6450 is for the Sun Blade 6000 modular system, making it an ideal fit for virtualization and server consolidation, HPC, database and enterprise applications.
Running the Solaris OS, Linux, Windows and VMware operating systems, the Sun Blade X6450 server modules allow customers to run existing 32-bit applications on the same hardware as they migrate to their choice of next generation 64-bit applications.
The Sun Blade X6450 comes standard with four PCI Express links, two onboard Gigabit Ethernet controllers and optional SAS interface. Consistent with all Sun Blade platforms, I/O is off server module, is hot pluggable and externally accessible for ease of serviceability, plus only Sun Blades offer unique I/O per blade for maximum configuration flexibility. The onboard 16GB compact flash option is ideal for embedded diagnostic tools, 'safe boot images', lower power, specific security measures (no external hot-plug drives allowed) and virtualization. The Sun Blade X6450 server module also comes equipped with an onboard Service Processor (SP) that enables each server module to be managed like an individual rackmount server, thus requiring no additional training.

Scale-out architectures: With large memory capacity, compact flash, high speed PCI Express expansion slots that enable high speed system interconnects such as gigabit and 10gigabit Ethernet, fibre channel and InfiniBand, these server modules are able to solve complex computing problems that require intense compute resources.
Scale-up architectures: With up to 16 cores available and up to 96GB of memory today (192GB in the future with 8GB DIMMs), these server modules are well-suited for virtualization and memory cache services. Database services may be deployed using either SAN or NAS solutions.
Scale-within: With their ability to run Solaris 10 Containers and VMware, Sun Blade X6450 server modules are ideal platforms for consolidating multiple applications onto a single platform.
