Faster Quad Core Processors for Sun Fire X4100 M2, X4200 M2
AMD Opteron Quad Core Processors Available

For the Sun Fire X4100, and X4200, M2 Rack Servers there are new AMD Quad Core Processors now available from Sun. Available through X-Option and ATO configurations, the 75W ACP quad core processor option is the fastest quad core processor available for the X4100 and X4200 M2 Rack Servers, running with 2.3GHz and 2MB L3.

Features of the Sun Fire X4100 M2 Server:

  • Upgrade from AMD Opteron dual-core to quad-core within the same power and thermal infrastructure
  • Upgrade to quad-core for less than 50% of the price of a new system
  • Four built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports, PCI-X and PCIe slots for high performance
  • 32GB of DDR memory
  • Integrated Lights Out Manager simplifies management, included at no cost

Features of the Sun Fire X4200 M2 Server:

  • One or two quad-core/dual-core AMD Opteron 2000 Series processors
  • Enterprise RAS features: redundant, hot-swappable components
  • Includes Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM)
  • Runs Solaris OS, Linux, Windows and VMware supported by Sun
  • More network expandability: four Gigabit Ethernet ports in a 2RU server
  • Upgrade to quad-core for less than 50% of the price of a new system

With the upgrade to quad core, Sun offers an upgrade plan for customers who already own Sun Fire X4100, and X4200, M2 servers. Customers who upgrade the CPU are eligible for the Upgrade Advantage. This will grant customers up to 20% “trade in allowance” for the old Sun Fire (M2 only) CPUs when purchasing the new CPU.
