Sun is making new standard configurations and options available for the Sun Fire X4150 Server with the Intel Xeon E5450 processor, as well as for the Intel Xeon L5420 processor options for the Sun Fire X4150, and, at the same time, the company is replacing the Intel Xeon L5335 processor. Sun is also beginning to transition the earlier standard configurations for the Sun Fire X4150.

These new standard configurations and options will enable the Sun Fire X4150 to deliver breakthrough performance, energy efficiency and make the most of the reliability of the new Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5450 processor. The Sun Fire X4150 is now an excellent choice for virtualization and business-critical applications, enabling IT departments to become more efficient and responsive. It is ideal for a broad range of applications running the Solaris OS, Linux, Windows or VMware.
With the new standard configurations and options, the Sun Fire X4150 has a 3 GHz CPU speed, a 12 MB L2 cache size and a bus speed of 1333 MHz FSB. The maximum expandability of the Sun Fire X4150 extends to up to 8 cores, 64GB of memory, over 1TB of internal storage, 4 GigE ports, embedded LOM and 3 PCI-Express slots for additional expansion needs - all in a 1U footprint.

The new standard configurations and Intel Xeon L5420 processor options for the Sun Fire X4150 Server and the transitioning of standard configurations and processor options for Sun Fire X4150 are being announced simultaneously. The Quad-Core Intel Xeon L5420 processor boosts performance and reduces power consumption in data centers, and it is also faster, with a 50 percent larger cache size than the previous-generation. The new CPU speed is 2.50 GHz; the bus speed, 1333 MHz FSB; the L2 cache size: 12 MB; and the L2 cache speed, 2.5 GHz.
Availability and Last Order Dates
The general availability date (June 02, 2008), the last order date (August 15, 2008) and the last ship date (November 14, 2008) are the same for both products.
Trade-ins and Upgrading
Upgrades for the Sun Fire X4150 server are available through the Sun Upgrade Advantage Program (UAP). Customers can trade-in qualified Sun or non-Sun servers and get up to a 10% trade-in allowance. This trade-in allowance is taken as a discount off the new Sun Fire X4150 list price.
