Project SocialSite is ideal for those running web applications or community sites who want to add social networking to create an Open Social container. So long as the site is run using Java, PHP or Ruby, this new project implements social graph, and seamlessly integrates with existing identities and authentication mechanisms. This makes plugging into existing directory servers or other user management systems particularly easy. Project SocialSite is most definitely a useful tool in making Web sites more public as well as adding interaction to keep viewers attention.
The project was developed to fit into an existing Web site as it blends into the site which it is used to enhance.
This screencast will show how using the NetBeans IDE can help to add the following features:
- Social networking features
- Friends
- Activities
- Profile
- Multi-language application support that adds social networking functionality
- An OpenSocial compliant gadget (OpenSocial support is a standard for social networking platforms.)
Although the software is not yet available, Sun does plan to release the download on its site soon. That will be a binary build, but shortly after that they are releasing the open source code.
