Environmental Defense Fund Honors Sun's Open Work Program
Cited for Ecological and Economic Efficiencies

An Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) report singled out Sun\'s Open Work program as a recent innovation that demonstrates environmental efficiency as well as economic savviness. Sun's inclusion in the report Innovations Review: Making Green the New Business as Usual was announced at an EDF event held in San Francisco last week with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sun President and CEO Jonathan Schwartz in attendance. More than 18,000 Sun employees worldwide (54 percent) participate in Sun's Open Work program and are able to work from any one of the following on any given day: home, in a flexible office or on a Sun campus. Through the use of Sun Ray thin clients - "a four watt replacement for a 200 watt PC" as Schwartz defines it - employees report to work through a secure Java technology-enabled ID card, and their files are stored on a central server rather than on an individual PC.
