The Sun Netra T5220 (DC version) is now available. This high-efficiency, ruggedized rack server platform is based on the second generation of the Chip Multi-threaded Technology (CMT) UltraSPARC T2 processor. The Netra T5220 server offers extreme reliability and high throughput, at the same time offering processor core, memory and I/O densities to enable expansion and flexibility with a compact 2U form factor. The Netra T5220 will be the ideal platform for virtualization. This platform can be a good replacement/alternative to the Netra T2000 or the Netra 240 and Netra 440. The Sun Netra T5220 (AC version) is coming in April 2008.

The UltraSPARC T2 processor is the first processor to increase performance by scaling with threads, rather than frequency, thereby minimizing power consumption. The new Netra T5220 server combines the certified ruggedness and reliability (NEBS level 3 certified) of earlier Sun Netra server designs with the performance and eco-efficiency of UltraSPARC T2 processors. This server offers a dramatic boost in throughput capacity for demanding telecommunications applications even as it lowers operating costs and conserves energy and space.

The Netra T5220 server represents Sun's next evolutionary server platform with integrated PCI-E ASIC features, two XAUI ports, eight SPARC cores with the ability to concurrently run eight threads per core, a separate floating point unit for each core, L2 cache, memory access crossbar, and four independent dual channel memory controllers. The server supports the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) 10/87 with patches.

The Sun Customer Ready (CRS) program can integrate, test and ship racks of custom-configured systems. With the Sun CRS program, you may choose from not only Sun but also third-party hardware and software.

The Sun Netra T5220 server supports the following x-options:

  • SESX2A1Z ?2-GB memory expansion kit (2 x 1GB)
  • SESX2B1Z ?4-GB memory expansion kit (2 x 2GB)
  • SESX2C1Z ?8-GB memory expansion kit (2 x 4GB)

All standard configurations come with the memory slots half populated. [...read more...]
