The Sun Modular Datacenter S20 (Project Blackbox) was awarded a 2008 Government Computer News (GCN) Best of FOSE Award during the annual FOSE Conference and Exposition held April 1-3 in Washington, DC.

Potential winners were selected from FOSE 2008 exhibiting companies that were showcasing a new product to be used in the public sector. The GCN Lab picked the best submissions from more than 100 different companies. Editorial and testing staffs from GCN and Washington Technology reviewed each entry. Winners were chosen based on four criteria: innovation, usability/applicability to government, relative performance based on specifications and value.

"With so many quality submissions, we struggled to narrow down the 2008 GCN Best of FOSE winners, suggesting once again the degree of technology innovation that companies are focusing on for public sector applications," said Wyatt Kash, editor in chief of GCN.

The 2008 Best of FOSE Award winners listed by category were:

• Desktop Computers: Hewlett-Packard, HP Compaq dc7800 Ultraslim Desktop Business PC with solid-state drives
• Display Devices: Lenovo, Lenovo ThinkVision L193p
• Handheld Devices: Ridgeline Technology, GD Itronix GoBook MR-1 ultramobile notebook PC
• Networking Equipment: Motorola, RFS7000 RF Switch
• Peripherals: Document Imaging, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group, Kodak i780 Scanner
• Portable PCs: Fujitsu Computer Systems, LifeBook P8010 Notebook
• Security Hardware: IronKey, The IronKey
• Security Software: Motorola, Good Mobile Messaging S/MIME
• Servers: Hewlett-Packard, HP Integrity BL870c Server Blade and the Bladesystem c3000
• Software for Desktop Systems: ZyLAB, ZyIMAGE eDiscovery Platform
• Software for Enterprise Systems: Infor, Infor Asset Sustainability
• Storage: Texas Memory Systems, RamSan 500
