Sun Launches New Initiative for SMBs Making it Easier, Faster and More Affordable to Buy Sun Technology
Sun is making it easier, faster and more cost-effective for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to use technology to gain a competitive advantage through a new initiative designed to make buying Sun technology easy and affordable for this market. The company has set up a new Web page and expanded its Try and Buy program specifically for SMBs. Through alliances with Microsoft, Intel and AMD, Sun is able to deliver complete SMB solutions spanning servers, storage, software, services and support. Customers can choose from a range of products and platforms including Sun Fire x64 and UltraSPARC-processor based servers and storage; multiple operating systems, including the Solaris 10 Operating System (Solaris OS), Windows and Linux; and databases, including Sun's MySQL. The SMB-optimal Sun solutions are featured on http://www.sun.com/smb and can be purchased through Sun's featured online resellers, Sun Authorized Partners or the Sun.com store. During the initial phase of the initiative, Sun will be working with CDW as the featured online reseller. Some of the solutions are:
Also making it easier for SMBs to access Sun technology is Sun\'s Try and Buy program, which enables businesses to test Sun's leading products in their own IT environments before making a purchasing decision. In the past two years, Sun has shipped more than 8,500 free trial systems, 70 percent of those to SMBs. The products in the Sun SMB initiative launched today will also be available for free trial through the Try and Buy program, Sun announced. "With energy-efficient, multi-platform systems coupled with free and open source software, Sun is removing the barriers to highly reliable and scalable computing for businesses of any size," said Lisa Sieker, vice president of SMB Systems Marketing, Sun. "Our expanding partnerships with online national resellers focused on this market provide the easy engagement models and fast turnarounds that SMBs require."
One Sun customer shared his experience. Sean Gorman, CEO and founder of FortiusOne, said, "As a startup, we initially thought we wouldn't be able to afford Sun products. Cost is very important, but our GeoCommons 2.0 application suite requires intense amounts of computation power. To be a successful GeoWeb company, we needed an infrastructure solution that was extremely reliable and scalable. When we investigated Sun, we were thrilled to learn that Sun offered competitively priced powerful solutions that were within our budget. This infrastructure gives us the flexibility to offer GeoCommons 2.0 to our entire list of valued large-scale government and commercial customers."
