Sun xVM Ops Center Released
Datacenter Automation Tool Simplifies Management of Heterogeneous Environments

The Sun xVM Ops Center is now available with commercial software subscriptions from US$100 per managed server up to $350 a year, depending on customer selected features. Subscriptions can be purchased as an annual or multi-year enrollment and come in three module levels: Starter, Standard, and Enterprise.

The soon-to-be released Sun Blade X8450 server module is the first Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor-based blade for the Sun Blade 8000 modular system family. Expected to begin shipping next month, the new X8450 will be priced at $8,905 for entry-level models.

New Chipmaker Announced for Sun's 45-Nanometer Processors
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. Takes Over For Texas Instruments

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has been selected to make Sun's 45-nanometer (nm) processors and will be collaborating to expand Sun's OpenSPARC program. This announcement comes in part due to Sun's long-time partner Texas Instruments (TI), who has been making chips for the company, and now plans to stop developing processes for fabricating chips.
