Sun to Acquire MySQL AB
Sun Now Well-Positioned in Global Web Economy, says Schwartz
Sun will be buying the Swedish software company MySQL AB for approximately US$1 billion. The company will pay about $800 million in cash in exchange for all of MySQL stock and assume about $200 million in options as part of the deal. Sun expects the acquisition to be complete in late third quarter or early fourth quarter of its fiscal 2008, and add to its fiscal operating income in 2010.

Sun Releases Preliminary Results for its Second Quarter of Fiscal Year 2008
Increases Expected Across the Board When Compared to Last Year's Results
Sun announced preliminary results for its second quarter of fiscal 2008 about a week before its official financial report is expected to be released. According to Sun CEO and President Jonathan Schwartz, the results "reflect solid execution and continued operational progress."

Sun Microsystems set a new world record, besting IBM's best X-series results by nearly twice, while running Four Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220 servers (UltraSPARC T2 processors) on the Siebel standard Platform Sizing and Performance Program (PSPP) benchmark suite with Siebel CRM 8.0 Industry Applications and Oracle 10g R2 DB running on the Solaris 10 Operating System (Solaris OS).

Sun Striving for Zero Datacenters by 2015
Half of its Internal Datacenters to be Eliminated in Five Years
Sun plans to cut the size of its internal datacenters in half by 2013 and two years after that eliminate them entirely, says Sun Data Center Architect Brian Cinque. Although the 2015 goal was noted as only a "vision" rather than a definitive plan by Sun CTO of IT John Dutra in a Forbes.com interview, Sun's does plan to lessen its dependence on in-house datacenters.

To Support Critical Apps Relied Upon by Athletes, Officials, Management, & More
Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc. has been named as the Computer Network Server Supplier to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. What this means is that Sun will be supplying the server and storage infrastructure and installation support for the Winter Games critical applications.
