Now available are new 750GB 7.2Krpm SATA-II drive configurations for the Sun StorageTek 2540 FC Array, Sun StorageTek 2530 Array, and Sun StorageTek 2501 SAS Expansion Array. These new configurations are available in multiple "fixed" standalone system combinations that are offered in the following variations:

  • 5 or 12 disk drives
  • Single or Dual 4Gb/s FC RAID controllers for the ST2540
  • Single or Dual 3Gb/s SAS RAID controllers for the ST2530
  • Single or Dual SAS I/O modules for the ST2501
  • Arrays include redundant AC power supplies

Other features of the 750GB 7.2Krpm SATA-II drive configurations for these Sun storage systems include:

  • X-option support of upgrades and customer sparing requirements
  • Support for tiered storage within the same enclosure using SAS and SATA hard disk drives (HDD)
  • Telcordia NEBS (Network Equipment Building System) Level 3 certification

The new SATA ST2500 offerings are supported by StorageTek Common Array Manager (CAM) v5.1.3 patched, v6.0.0 patched, and v6.0.1 or later. The associated CAM v5.1.3 and v6.0 patch for ST2500 SATA Support can be obtained through the standard Sun patch support process. Sun emphasizes following the patch instructions in the associated README file.

Arrays running with controller firmware 06.17.52.10 or earlier will need to be updated to the current firmware in order to support the addition of SATA-II drives. To enable SATA support for the ST2500 Arrays, see the release notes that cover the necessary steps to perform the firmware upgrade as well as more detailed information on the ST2500 Series Arrays.

Sun does offer a trade-in allowance for customers interested in upgrading to the ST2540 FC Array and/or ST2530 SAS Array. [...read more...]
