Sun's Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region makes up nearly 40 percent of the company's business, and just this week Sun announced it is giving the responsibility of this region's sales and services team to a new senior vice president - Alain Andreoli.

Andreoli's resume consists of more than 25 years of technology, sales, and leadership experience. His last position was as CEO of cc-hubwoo, a global provider in "source-to-pay" electronic solutions and supplier network management. He also held the CEO and president position at Xiotech, and served as corporate vice president and general manager of EMEA for Texas Instruments, where he was employed for 14 years. He also spent five years at StorageTek as corporate vice president and general manager of International Operations, was president and COO of Verio (NTT Group), and EVP of worldwide sales and services for McData Corporation (now Brocade).

Andy Griffiths, business development manager at Sun and IBM VAR Q Associates, told eWeek that this move is indicative of Sun's future strategy. "Sun clearly has a focus on storage, and appointing someone with such a storage background into EMEA management teams will help support Sun's strategic storage focus going forward," he said.

eWeek's Sara Driscoll reported that Sun has recently experienced a tumultuous time in its European division with the loss of the head of the U.K. channel and the U.K. country manager within weeks of each other back in July.

Andreoli's recent appointment comes five months after the position was vacated. Sun EVP Crawford Beveridge had been overseeing the duties of this newly filled position and will now be returning to his current role of EVP and chairman of EMEA, APAC, and the Americas with responsibility for Global Governments.

Andreoli will be reporting to Global Sales and Service EVP Don Grantham, who commented, "As we continue to execute on our plan for sustained growth and profitability, Alain's extensive sales leadership and proven ability to deliver superior value to customers and partners will be a huge asset."
