New riser cards for the Sun Fire V215 and V245 servers change the characteristics of the I/O subsystem giving users more flexibility for configurations, especially in the combination of adapters that can be included with a system.

Two of the new riser cards provide an effective means to change I/O slots from PCI-X to PCIe, so more combinations of adapters can be considered and allow for standardization on newer technology. Note that replacement to these riser cards will eliminate all PCI-X slot(s) from the servers.

Adapters supported for the new PCIe riser cards:

  • X7295A: XVR-2500 graphics adapter requires X8426A-Z for Sun Fire V215 and X8427A-Z for Sun Fire V245

Two more new riser cards, PCI-X riser cards, support adapters such as the X1256A-2 serial asynchronous adapter, SAI/P.
