OpenEco.org is a new community aimed at helping organizations calculate, compare and reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions using the site's unique GHG emissions tool. Membership is free and open to organizations willing to sharing data, transparently or anonymously, with other community participants.
Sun has been sharing its own emissions data and best practices online to help other companies reduce their footprint. With OpenEco.org, participating organizations also can share their carbon accounting data and benchmark against one another, set reduction goals and share best practices in reaching them.
Dave Douglas, vice president of Eco Responsibility at Sun, believes a community is important in success: "Working together drives progress faster than working alone."
OpenEco.org is co-sponsored by Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), who named Sun as "Best in Class" in its approach to climate change disclosure. Sun has also been included in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, a group of 68 Financial Times 500 companies who have distinguished themselves in addressing the risks and opportunities of climate change.
