Selected by InfoWorld Test Center editors and reviewers, these first annual Bossies celebrate the best open source software available for the enterprise - InfoWorld

InfoWorld named its choices for best open source software and storage, awarding NetBeans IDE and ZFS with 2007 Bossie Awards in their respective categories.

Here's a rundown of the winners:

Open Source Software

  • Best IDE: NetBeans

"This year, NetBeans had the courage to completely redesign the code-editing experience to emulate the most user-friendly editor available for Java (IntelliJ) — resulting in a greatly improved user experience. For its commitment to quality over quantity and for the courage to rip and replace modules to improve developer productivity, we salute the NetBeans team and its stellar IDE."

  • Best Rich Internet Applications (RIA) Toolkit for Flash Applications: OpenLaszlo

  • Best AJAX Toolkit: Tibco General Interface

  • Best Continuous Integration (CI) Server: CruiseControl

Open Source Storage

  • Best File System: ZFS

"Imagine never having to check your systems for data integrity because it’s guaranteed by the file system. Add built-in logical volume management and RAID management, then stretch capacity to a galactic dimension, a one followed by 21 zeroes. In short, ZFS hides many dirty details of storage administration, and it can scale as far as it is physically possible to go."

  • Best NAS Server: FreeNAS

  • Best Storage Networking Software: AoE Tools

  • Best Block I/O Tool: Iometer

  • Best File I/O Tool: IOzone
