The new modular Sun StorageTek 9985V Storage System expands Sun's storage virtualization portfolio while giving customers improved storage utilization with Dynamic Provisioning software.

This high-end storage is scheduled to be available next quarter (CY'07). It features data center-class functionality and embedded heterogeneous virtualization. Key specifications include:

  • 4th generation high-performance crossbar architecture
  • 4 Gb/sec performance
  • Up to 13.3 GB/sec aggregate bandwidth and 800,000 IOPS
  • Up to 72 TB internal capacity (240 drives) and 96 PB external storage virtualization
  • Embedded virtualization

Sun StorageTek 9985V Enterprise Storage System supports VMWare ESX virtualization software and Solaris Containers. Sun is working with Hitachi Data Systems on this storage technology.
