Sun and Microsoft make the news again, this time with they have expanded their alliance: Sun will sell Windows Server on its x64 hardware and will provide additional utilities and value-added software offerings to server systems carrying Windows Server. Read more in article [18624].

Another big announcement this week details update 4 of the Solaris OS -- Solaris 10 8/07. It has more mature Solaris Containers technology and more. See the details in [18625].

Sun has announced that it will buy CFS, the company which makes the Lustre file system [18623]. Product announcements include the X8840 [18621] Sun Blade 8000 blade and the 9985V [18620] addition to Sun's storage virtualization portfolio.

There is a new software from Sun this week: Sun Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (Sun VDI) Software. It provides a highly-secure platform for accessing virtualized Microsoft Windows desktop environments from a wide variety of client devices when installed on the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS).
