Sun is a key driver of the global software industry and, in particular, in the telecommunications and enterprise software markets.

Synchronica, a mobile synchronization and device management company, has signed a contract with Sun Microsystems to license key components of the Synchronica Mobile Gateway for integration with products from its Communications and Applications software divisions.

The SyncML synchronization engine of Synchronica's Mobile Gateway will be used with the Sun Java Communications Suite. With this, users can synchronize calendar, contacts and tasks over-the-air with many mobile devices compatible via the SyncML (OMA DS) industry standard. Synchronica's Mobile Gateway is built on open standards of SyncML and IMAP. The SyncML standard is incorporated into more than 1.3 billion devices from companies such as Nokia, SonyEricsson and Motorola.

The Sun Java Communications Suite provides services for major global enterprises and mobile operators.

Synchronica's Mobile Gateway is a carrier-grade middleware solution that provides push e-mail and synchronization services. With Mobile Gateway, operators and device manufacturers can give their mobile users the ability to send and receive email from consumer mailboxes (AOL, Gmail, and others), as well as to synchronize their calendar and contact data with business systems such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Sun Java Communications Suite.

Synchronica's SyncML synchronization engine will work with the Java ME SyncML client; Sun Java Application Platform Suite will be enhanced with an end-to-end synchronization infrastructure that will allow third-party developers to build arbitrary data synchronization solutions.

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, said: "This deal marks the beginning of a long term, strategic relationship with Sun and is a major milestone in Synchronica's development. Sun is a key driver of the global software industry and, in particular, in the telecommunications and enterprise software markets. Integrating Synchronica's SyncML technology with Sun's core software products will create a scalable route to market and broaden the adoption of our software in the marketplace."

Licensing terms for Sun are available in the press release. [...read more...]
