eWEEK Labs recently tested OpenOffice.org 2.2 and did a slight comparison to Microsoft Office 2007. Tiffany Maleshefski acknowledged improvements within both; however, she noted that OpenOffice.org 2.2's enhancements were pervasive, its broad platform support impressive and, best of all, it is free.
The Navy and Marine Corps commands have been given clearance to use open source software (OSS), so states Navy CIO Robert J. Carey in a June 5th memo, which notes "the importance of OSS to the warfighter and the need to leverage its benefits throughout the DON" (Department of the Navy) is now recognized.
