Sun and the IP telecom company Mitel Networks Corp. have signed an agreement to create a solution that will allow companies to use call control software as it meets their needs. Mitel provides unifying IP communications solutions and applications. The solution will allow different versions of the same software to run on a mulit-tenant PBX.
Mitel's unified communications call control software will be integrated into Sun servers for enterprise and carrier hosted and customer premise environments. The Multi-Instance Call Server (MICS) allows up to 200 compartmentalized instances of the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (IPC) call control software to run simultaneously within Sun FireTM X4200 and Sun FireTM X4600 servers.
The MICS allows multiple businesses, departments and offices to share the same server but use a specific version of call control software and use the features and functions that meet their particular needs.
Tele2, one network operator who plans to use it, said it will allow them to differentiate what they offer and unlock "versions of the call control functions for each tenant and update, change, and add features according to each customer's unique needs," said Theo van Dongen, senior business consultant voice of Tele2. They have "racks and stacks of 3300 ICPs in a room" and each one has its own "management system to service our various hosted customers" he explained. They will consolidate their hosted voice services onto a single server and one management tool.
Mitel Deal for Sun RayTM Thin Clients
Sun and Mitel have also created a unified solution offering with Mitel's contact center software on Sun Ray ultra-thin client hardware. The solution allows for a single hot desk sign-on for both the Sun Ray ultra-thin client terminal and the Mitel IP phone. The Sun Ray IP Phone Bundle is particularly well suited for cost and security-sensitive environments such as contact centers, education, healthcare, service providers and financial services.
