This new release of SolarisTM Express Developer Edition 5/07 features the new SunTM Studio 12 compilers, enhanced wireless support and automatic network configuration for developing applications based on the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS), JavaTM technology and Web 2.0 applications.
Solaris Express Developer Edition is a free, quarterly release of Sun's next generation Solaris OS that is built from the source code repository at OpenSolaris.org. This release of the Solaris Express Developer Edition includes a number of components that have not yet appeared in a Solaris 10 OS update such as:
- Build 64a of the Solaris Express Community Edition
- Firefox 2.0 Browser
- Thunderbird 2.0 with the new Lightning calendar module
- StarOfficeTM 8 with product update 6 office productivity suite
The latest developer tools are new Sun Studio 12 C, C++ and Fortran compilers, the NetBeansTM 5.5 IDE, the Profiler, Visual Web Pack and Enterprise Pack that includes the GlassFishTM application server. You'll also get the JavaTM Platform, Standard Edition 6 (JavaTM SE 6) and PostgreSQL 8.2.4.
More wireless chipsets are supported, including Intel Pro/Wireless 2100de, 2200BG/2915ABG and 3945.
This release includes the first putback of the OpenSolarisTM project codenamed Network Automagic, a project to automatically configure active network interfaces.
Some new packages have been added relative to Solaris 10 11/06 OS:
- GNU diffutils 2.8.1
- GNU Quagga 0.99.5
- Subversion 1.4.0
