OpenOffice.org Localization in China Helped by Sun and RedFlag Software Company
Localization and Quality Assurance Projects

The OpenOffice.org community and Redflag Chinese 2000 Software Co, Ltd. will jointly develop new features into the RedOffice software application that is based on OpenOffice.org as part of the Chinese localization of OpenOffice.org.

The RedFlag software company is a subsidiary of the Chinese Academy of Science. They make software called RedOffice that is based on OpenOffice.org, an open source software application package that has programs for word processing, drawing, and spreadsheets. OpenOffice.org supports the OpenDocument Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) OASIS Standard (ISO/IEC 26300) as well as legacy industry file formats and is available on major computing platforms in more than 90 languages.

RedFlag is used by government offices. The company has promoted OpenOffice.org in China.

As part of the agreement, the RedFlag company will add about 50 engineers to the open source project. Sun is the primary sponsor of the OpenOffice.org project and will help with the engineering.
