New Sun StorageTek 9990V Enterprise Storage System Provides Advanced Functionality For the Most Demanding Datacenter Environments
The new Sun StorageTekTM 9990V Enterprise Storage System from Sun and Hitachi Data Systems is designed for mission-critical enterprise applications, data center SANs, large-scale storage consolidation, and dynamic, tiered storage infrastructures.
"Sun and Hitachi Data Systems have a rich history of solving complex data management problems that reduce time-to-market and total cost of ownership (TCO) for high-end enterprise customers. Together we have helped thousands of enterprises in all industries across the globe address their unique data management challenges. We are pleased to bring the new dynamic provisioning capabilities to customers," said Nigel Dessau, senior vice-president of marketing and business operations, Storage, Sun.
The StorageTek 9990V features thin provisioning software and is calling it "Dynamic Provisioning." The Register explains, "Thin (Dynamic) provisioning allows physical disk capacity to be allocated only when needed for virtual volumes. Traditional methods use fixed portions of storage space allocated to volumes, regardless if they are used or not."
Benefits of the Sun StorageTek 9990V Enterprise Storage System:
Advanced copy and replication services
Dynamic provisioning for improved storage utilization
Virtualizes and aggregates heterogeneous storage systems under a single point of control
Technical features:
106 GB/sec internal data bandwidth and 3.5M IOPS
Up to 247 PB of virtualized storage and up to 332 TB of internal capacity
Up to 224 Fibre Channel and 112 FICON/ESCON host ports
