Weekly Summary:
A glimpse of "the Rock" -- the processor, not the actor Dwayne Johnson -- is all we're getting now, but here it is [17951].
In Software, get a detailed look at the Sun Virtual Desktop access kit for VMware: article [17820] gets down into the architecture, and [17910] shows you how to set it up for the first time.
In more software news, Sun contributed storage software code to the OpenSolaris project [17945], providing more choices and ways to create new storage solutions. A current storage solution of Sun's is being offered at 50 percent off savings: the Sun StorageTek SL8500 tape modular tape library offers more than savings on the purchase cost; a recent survey indicates tape drive technology is cheaper on the cooling and power costs of a datacenter than SATA disk technology; see article [17943] for promotion details.
Deals for universities, schools and research institutes include special pricing on storage, desktop products, and servers; see the Education section this week.
The UltraSPARC IV+ 1.95 GHz processors announced last week (in article [17909]) are available in the Sun Fire E2900 server [17918].
The Solaris 10 OS is changing minds of analysts as they evaluate Sun; see [17936]. If you are considering upgrading to the Solaris 10 OS, there is an evaluation service to show you what impact it would have on your systems and what the benefits would be [17919].
