Imation and Sun Expand Alliance to Globally Distribute Tape Media
Expanded Alliance Provides Added Convenience

The data storage company Imation has signed a distribution agreement with Sun to be the worldwide media distributor of Sun-branded tape media for entry-level, mid-range and datacenter environments.

Imation develops, manufactures and distributes Sun StorageTekTM 9840 and Sun StorageTekTM 9940 tape cartridges for Sun. Imation has been working with Sun for many years, including a strategic agreement last year (February 2006) to develop and launch an extension to the Sun StorageTek T9840 drive platform. Frank Russomanno, president, COO and acting CEO of Imation, said, "We have a long history of working with Sun to meet the needs of our mutual customers who require the highest quality data storage products, responsive customer service and top-notch technical support. Pairing Sun's trusted media brand with Imation's global distribution capabilities will provide significant benefits for our companies and our customers."

The new agreement this week adds to the distribution of Sun products by Imation by adding the following Sun products to Imation's global distribution list: Sun StorageTek T10000 format, as well as all Sun StorageTek-branded LTO Ultrium, Super DLTtape, DLTtape, and DDS tape cartridges.

Nigel Dessau, senior vice president, Storage Marketing and Business Operations, Sun, said the agreement will simplify the process for customers and create new opportunities for partners by providing a one-stop shopping experience for tape media. "We expect Imation's global distribution capabilities and worldwide reach, from the Americas to Europe and Asia-Pacific, will benefit both customers and resellers via quick and easy access to media for Sun StorageTek tape drives and libraries," Dessau said. This agreement is one of several with premier companies looking to build on Imation's worldwide distribution capability and knowledge. [...read more...]
