Sun Microsystems Reaches 25 Years Since its Founding February 23, 2007,
Volume 108, Issue 3
Sun's slow-going recovery can be traced back to the updated mix of products it offered after the tech bust
-- Jean Bozman, research VP, IDC
Nicole Wong of Mercury News provides a mini retrospective of Sun from 25 years ago to this week, especially comparing one of the founders, Scott McNealy, with the current CEO Jonathan Schwartz.
Wong asserts "observers note that Sun today needs a less combative leader like Schwartz, with the flexibility and openness to make Sun more competitive by collaborating with other companies in today's fast-paced tech world."
McNealy admitted that "diplomacy" has not been his "middle name" while Schwartz said his rise "to the top job gave the company an opportunity 'to hit the reset button'."
