CRN states that Bechtolsheim is "getting credit for helping breathe new life into" Sun. And Mark Teter, CTO of Advanced Systems Group, said, Bechtolsheim is "responsible for Sun becoming the best vendor in the x86 space."
A large part of Sun's revival is due to its "Galaxy" line of servers, which have helped Sun acquire new customers.
Engineer Bechtolsheim left Sun a few years ago to work on a start up called Kealia, which Sun then bought, and Bechtolsheim re-joined Sun. His return has inspired confidence, as indicated by a Sun partner, Solarcom. Ed Gogol, Solarcom's director of enterprise systems, said. "If Bechtolsheim is serious enough about Sun to come back, it says a lot about the company."
