IDC Reports Growth in Sun Disk Storage and Tape Storage New and Updated Sun Storage Solutions Bring Value to Customers
IDC research for Q2 2006 shows that in disk storage, Sun grew the fastest of the major disk storage vendors, with 13.4 percent revenue growth year over year. Sun extended its number one position in UNIXR disk storage market share (units) to 37.6 percent, more than double the nearest competitor.
According to a report posted by Reuters (August 31, 2006), "Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems were among the fastest-growing storage system makers in the second quarter, while EMC and Dell lagged overall market growth, IDC researchers said."
In tape storage, Sun extended its number one position in overall WW Tape storage revenue market share to 31 percent. According to Sun's Inner Circle news:
Sun grew 6.2 percent year over year while the number two and number three vendors, ADIC and IBM, grew 0.7 percent and shrank 8.2 percent, respectively.
Sun has unseated IBM as the worldwide revenue market leader in Enterprise Tape Automation by growing 11.9 percent year over year while IBM shrank 11.9 percent.
