Australia's Northern Territory Government Buys Sun Identity Management Solution Three-Year Deal to Provide Services for Territorial Agencies
Australia's Northern Territory government contracted Sun Microsystems recently for an identity management solution, according to a report by ZDNet Australia.
The state's Department of Corporate and Information Services (DCIS) data center services division, which made the three-year, AU$1.7 million deal, provides corporate services to agencies of the territorial government such as information, communications and technology services, software and hardware.
Sun has a comprehensive portfolio of identity management solutions such as the newest 7.0 version of the Sun JavaTM System Identity Manager. Version 7.0 offers identity auditing capabilities to address regulatory mandates, internal privacy and policy initiatives for ongoing and sustainable compliance.
Enhancements to the Sun Java System Identity Manager 7.0 automate compliance processes, making it easier and less expensive to manage compliance regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley. This version is the first in the industry to combine user provisioning with identity auditing.
The latest version of Java System Identity Manager verifies a user's identity before allowing access. Consistent policy enforcement is provided by automated reviews and proactive scanning. These enhancements to the latest version of the software allow enterprises to implement sustainable and repeatable practices, which reduce the cost of maintaining compliance. Other features include:
Comprehensive provisioning with non-invasive architecture for fast, easy and cost-effective implementation
Identity auditing capabilities to address regulatory mandates, internal privacy and policy initiatives for ongoing and sustainable compliance
Proven scalability in environments of 10+ million users
Sun Java System Identity Manager combines user provisioning with identity auditing. User provisioning is the process of creating, updating and deleting user access across applications and systems. Identity auditing is the process of analyzing applications and systems for identity control violations, notifying corporate compliance officers of violations and addressing policy exceptions.
Converged provisioning and identity auditing reduces costs by automating both the process of keeping track of who has access to what and the process of determining quickly and accurately when that access is in violation.
Sun Java System Identity Manager supports the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS), Microsoft Windows and Linux. It works with the Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft HRMS, SAP and Siebel products. It also works with databases such as Microsoft SQL server, MySQL, Oracle, Sybase and IBM DB2.
Other identity management solutions from Sun include a directory server (enterprise edition), an access manager, and a federation manager. Details on these products is available from the Sun web site.
