Got any ideas about how you might use the "Thumper," Sun's new Sun FireTM X4500 server? Why not submit those bright ideas to see whether they might win one of these servers for you in the Sun "Thump This" contest. Jonathan Schwartz explains the competition online.

The Thump This Contest encourages people to tell Sun by creating a video in English on what they would do with a Sun Fire X4500 server if they had one. Prizes will be awarded to those who submit the most original, creative and humorous videos. Each video should appeal to a worldwide audience. Submitted videos should be approximately 30 seconds long. You may submit multiple entries -- each video being considered an entry -- as long as each entry meets all requirements.

To enter you must register at the registration web page. To do this you will need to have a YouTube account name. Once you have completed the registration process and have created your video, upload it to your YouTube account, marking it as private.

Each winner will be determined by the judges at their sole discretion and in accordance with the Official Rules. Sun will select one grand prize winner at the conclusion of the contest period. The grand prize winner will receive one Sun Fire X4500 server. The grand prize winner will be selected by a panel of experts who will judge each entry based on the following equally-weighted criteria: originality, creativity, humor, appeal to a worldwide audience and clear description of what the entrant would do with a Sun Fire X4500 server.

Sun will select one winner every month during the contest period, for a total of three winners (each, a "monthly winner"). Each monthly winner will receive one Sun UltraTM 20 workstation.

This contest begins September 13, 2006, and ends at 11:59 P.M. (PT) which is 7:59 A.M. (GMT) on December 15, 2006. See the contest details and rules online for full information on eligibility and other requirements.
