Gain Insight into Power Consumption Demands with Sun Eco Connection
Environmental Hardware Analysis of Sun Servers

If you need to better understand and manage the physical factors that impact performance within your data center, the new Sun Eco Connection is for you. Using sophisticated sensors integrated into the servers, Sun Eco Connection provides valuable insight into the performance and the health of systems so that you can take necessary, proactive steps to prevent problems and save money.

The initial release of the Sun Eco Connection is designed for companies with mid-range Sun Fire servers, Sun BladeTM 8000 Modular Systems or Sun BladeTM X8400 Server Modules, and are willing to purchase services via the Web. The following platforms are supported:

  • Sun FireTM 3800 server
  • Sun FireTM 4800/4810 server
  • Sun FireTM 4900 server
  • Sun FireTM 6800 server
  • Sun FireTM 6900 server
  • Sun BladeTM 8000 Modular System (entire system: chassis and modules)
  • Sun BladeTM X8400 Server Module

SolarisTM 9 or 10 Operating System (Solaris OS) is required for the client, however all supported platforms can be monitored remotely using this client regardless of the system OS.

For Sun Blade 8000 Modular Systems and Sun Blade X8400 Server Modules, Solaris 10 OS is required to install the remote monitoring client. The blades can be monitored remotely from the same client.

How it Works

Sun Eco Connection continuously gathers temperature and power consumption data aggregation of Sun servers. This provides a comparison of temperature and power consumption among servers so you can understand physical factors that affect system performance to address issues before problems occur. Get:

  • Focused Reporting: Power and temperature reports are provided via a secure, online portal.

  • Trending Analysis: Provides customers a mechanism to measure their data center status and make improvements.

The initial release will be offered at no cost for a limited time. Subsequent versions will be sold for a fee as part of the Sun Connection for Administrators. Contact your Sun sales rep or reseller for information. [...read more...]
