Jonathan Gershater, Suveer Chainani, Abdi Mohammadi and Jan Vanhaecht are the authors of a how-to entitled "Installing, Managing, and Using Sun JavaTM System Access Manager and Sun JavaTM System Identity Manager on the Solaris 10 OS," a Big Admin System Administration Portal article. The steps outlined by the authors take advantage of the Solaris ZonesTM and Service Management Facility features of SolarisTM 10 Operating System (Solaris OS) software.
The installation and configuration procedures reference and complement the official Sun documents at http://docs.sun.com, but also offer alternative approaches. While detailed instructions, screen text output and screen shots are used in the how-to document, the user is expected to have some experience with the Sun JavaTM Identity Management Suite. The document offers not only troubleshooting but also some best practice guidelines. The complete paper is available online.
Several solutions need to be downloaded and installed. These include:
- Sun JavaTM System Access Manager 7.0
- Sun JavaTM System Identity Manager 6.0 and 6.0 Service Pack 1
- Sun JavaTM System Application Server 8.1
Once installed, these solutions need to be integrated and configured. Once this is accomplished, it becomes necessary to provision an admin user with all privileges and an end user to Java System Access Manager.
Next comes configuring a log-in module to Java System Access Manager along with pass-through authentication. One also needs to create policies for Java System Identity Manager. With this accomplished, it is possible to log in and out of Java System Identity Manager.
The authors include a section on troubleshooting as well as one on locating the log files and testing connections.
